Aşk, Mark ve Ölüm - Liebe, D-Mark und Tod
On 28 August 2025, we invited guests to a film screening and discussion from 7 to 10 p.m.
The documentary film ‘Aşk, Mark ve Ölüm – Love, Deutschmark and Death’ (2022) by Cem Kaya uses archive footage and interviews to tell the unique story of the musical culture of Turkish immigrants, their children and grandchildren in Germany. Film and TV producer Stefan Kauertz, who grew up in Ratingen-West, produced the film with his company ‘Filme Five’. In the film, musician Tachi talks about the founding of the hip-hop group ‘Fresh Familee’ in Ratingen-West. Before the film, both spoke with Anne Schülke, head of the Ratingen City Archives, Sebastian Barteleit, and Tim Heyer, head of the Youth Club, about how important it is to remember, mourn and celebrate together from different perspectives. The audience participated in the discussion.
The event took place in cooperation with VHS Ratingen and the Ratingen City Archives, the municipal senior citizens' centre, the municipal youth centre and the Diakonie in Ratingen-West, and was financially supported by the Kultur- und Sozialstiftung der Provinzial Rheinland and the InfRaWest fund.
